My name is Dazie Williams and I am the mother of Joshua Woods, one of the many innocent victims killed around the world over “Air Jordan” shoes. My son Joshua and his friend were robbed at gun point on December 21, 2012. The suspects demanded the Air Jordan shoes they had just purchased. Unfortunately my son was shot and killed that day.
Since this has happened to my son and now he is no longer with my family and I, it has really made me realize that something needs to be done and changed with releasing of the Air Jordan shoes. My obligation is to make awareness to stop the violence nationwide associated with the release of these shoes, along with your help.
I have done my own research on this product, and I am amazed of the stream of violence, and how many other innocent lives have been taken over a pair of Air Jordan’s. It’s not only my family and I grieving over a lost one due to this product there are so many more. Just to name a few:
- Juan Reyna 16 year old (shot and killed)
- Paul Sampleton Jr. 14 year old (shot and killed)
- Michael Eugene Thomas 15 year old (strangled)
- Joshua Woods 22 year old (shot and killed)
Isn't the life of one child enough?
Take a stand against children and the youth dying over sneakers and clothes!
When Will These Senseless MURDERS Stop?
Like I have mentioned before, these are just a few there are many, many more. These are senseless crimes continuing to happen and we as a nation need to come together and make a change. With the launch of these Nike products, Nike has released this statement: “As the launch of all Nike products, consumer safety and security is of paramount importance. We encourage anyone wishing to purchase our product to do so in a respectful and safe manner.”
Let’s put an end to innocent lives still being taken due to the releasing of this product. Let the shoes sell itself, this is the only shoe where you have to get a wrist band, or tickets, and even stand in long lines for hours. Make the shoes available without all of the chaos and violence.
Three young men charged with capital murder in the murder of Joshua Woods
Don’t put a cap on the number of shoes each store will be receiving. Increase the quantity provided to retailers, make Air Jordan’s more easily accessible. In doing this, more lives will be saved, less family and friends mourning over a love one, and also less opportunity for these type of crimes to be committed.
If Nike continues to release their product as they are doing now more lives will be taken, more crimes of this type will be committed. No one comes out on top, all over a pair of shoes.
We as a nation should not expect innocent lives to be taken every time Air Jordan’s are released. This has been going on for many years, and I am asking you to help put an END to this senseless type of violence, together we can make a TREMENDOUS CHANGE.
